Many reports are coming out in the open now talking about smartphone apps which contain viruses. Earlier, one would only worry about laptops and computers, but now the list also includes smartphones and tablet PCs. Before you download apps on any of these electronic devices, be extremely careful about viruses.

If you are not keen on recycling cell phones due to the fear of virus-ridden handsets, then I would surely suggest you to install some anti-virus apps which are created by reputed virus protection companies. Fraudsters are always on the prowl with their malware to catch the vulnerable. You can safely follow some steps to keep your mobile phone virus-free and only engage in recycling of very old phones.

A warning has been sent out which highlights the importance of choosing the right company where you could buy used mobile phones from. A non-reputed firm has high likelihood of serving up malware on any platform. Around one in every ten used cell phones still contain information on them, which can be stolen using such virus. Do not think that cell phone recycling is bad. Instead, it is extremely beneficial since the entire process scraps everything, including data. Only the rare metals are retrieved for re-use. One cannot afford to under-estimate the importance of cell phone recycling due to some hindrances that are likely. You can make certain that your mobile is safe by relying only on the direct application company than any unfamiliar sites selling apps.

Well, we just cannot afford to sit back and relax when e-waste is becoming a deadly problem all over the world. Should we not look at ways and means of reducing the electronic waste? The rate at which we are changing our devices, reduction in e-waste does not look likely. On the contrary, I can only foresee population increasing manifold and more people beginning to own mobile phone, further escalating the problem of electronic waste.

Some organizations however are working towards lessening such waste and recouping precious electronics that get discarded every year. Are you aware that your cell phone contains many important and rare metals, which must be re-cycled and re-used instead of ending up in a landfill? You can also make an effort to assist these organizations by ensuring that cell phones do not get thrown in trash but get turned in for recycling.

Cell phone recycling is very simple to follow and that should give us all the more reasons to avoid electronics getting dumped in landfills. Simply go online, state which cell phone you have and you will see the amount that recycling companies are offering to pay for it. Once you send your old phone to the recycling centre, the company does the rest of the job of recycling and gives you cash in return. You can use this income towards purchasing something new, may be a new phone. Isn’t it easy? Cell phone recycling does what is best for you as well as the environment.

Apparently, there is a mobile phone race on in the marketplace right now. Apple and Samsung are locked in a ferocious battle to determine who will rule the UK mobile phone marketplace. As per a recently conducted survey, around 50% of market share is with Apple and Samsung put together. The two combined together hold a significant 53.3% stake in the total mobile phone UK market.

Another interesting aspect about this battle is the increase in mobile phone recycling it is causing. Apple recently launched the Apple 4S model, which created quite a flutter in the market and resulted in enhanced levels of activity in the mobile phone recycling in United Kingdom. A large number of Apple iPhones and many other brands like blackberry were turned in for recycling as a direct result of this launch. Samsung however was not among the top most mobile phones which were recycled. Nevertheless, going by the statistics it is clear that Samsung phones are becoming more and more popular among the UK residents. It seems that in another couple of years more and more Samsung phones will also get turned in for mobile phone recycling.

There is another aspect related to recycling of Samsung phones. Perhaps Samsung has a technology or the kind of users who are not in great favour of upgrading their mobile phones regularly. It could be that the Samsung phone owners utilize their handsets until they completely live out their life spans. We will have to wait for a few more years to better understand the Samsung’s position in the mobile phone recycling marketplace.

Do not smash your cell phone to pieces if you have to recycle it carefully. Instead, you must be sure on which recycling centre you are choosing. When you select a trustworthy place, you will not need to unnecessarily worry about information getting stolen or landing into wrong hands. All you will need to do is to take out your SIM card from the old phone or iPad or remove your computer’s hard drive. As long as all data is completely wiped out and no important information is saved on your mobile device or the computer, it is absolutely fine to go ahead and recycle. If your device is not in a working condition when you approach the recycling centre, it is even better, though of course it will fetch you more value if it is a working electronic.

Electronics in a working condition get resold after they undergo extensive and detailed refurbishment. This refurbishment process involves taking out any parts which store information in an electronic device or mobile phone. The cell phone is then reset to original factory settings implying that all the passwords and stored data are totally removed. To be safe, you yourself can also delete all information that you can before shipping it out or resetting to factory defaults yourself. Most data these days is saved on SIM cards, which can be removed from the newer mobile handsets and shifted to another mobile phone with ease. Hence they are resold more than those which are SIM-free and are over five years old.

The Apple iPhone 4S sales in the first quarter of year 2012 have shown a marked improvement against the company’s performance for the same quarter last year. The recently released figures reveal that the total Apple iPhone sales during the first three months amounted to a total of £7.2 billion. The company managed to sell around 35 million new mobile phone units in the time period of January to March. Apple iPad 3 sales have also witnessed significant improvement, thereby contributing to the overall earnings in the first quarter for the company. As it is evident, it will be another strong year for Apple, apart from being a strong year for mobile phone recycling too.
Many mobile phone recycling companies have mentioned that older models of iPhone remain the most in-demand product when it comes to recycling. Apart from a large number of first and second iPhone editions, many iPhone 4 models are also being turned in for mobile phone recycling nowadays. This is great news for families who cannot shell out large sums of money for brand-new iPhones. Now they can use a reasonably new iPhone model, courtesy the process of mobile phone recycling. The recycling of all such iPhones not only helps mobile phone recycling companies in increasing their revenues, it also gives an opportunity to the common man to afford a phone which he cannot purchase as new.

It seems at times that a new mobile phone is hitting the shelves almost every day! To some extent, it is quite close considering the number of manufacturers in the market. This surely means that one may have an interest in trading in their one or two-year old mobile phones for something newer. If this is the case, then some amount of work needs to be done towards mobile phone recycling. You have to be certain to start early in looking out for new cell phones so that you set the right time for recycling your old cell phone.

Did you know that the old model SIM free mobile phones cannot be re-sold? In other words, they get you much lesser an amount through recycling as compared to other mobile phones. This is due to the fact that cell phone recycling companies resell only those phones which are completely data-free and can have a new SIM card loaded. The little amount received from recycling the SIM-free phones is only towards the precious metals contained in the handsets which can be re-used.

Needless to say, one must take all steps to prevent loss and misuse of data. The old SIM must be removed and the data wiped so that the phone is as good as new as far as storage is concerned. If you leave any data on your old phone then the recycler will surely dump it. You must be extremely careful on this specific aspect of mobile phone recycling.

Does your home have more than one mobile phone? It could be that you, like a large number of mobile phone users, are holding onto old mobile phones just because there are pictures in them, which you don’t want to lose. Therefore you have ended up having more than three obsolete mobile phones gathering dust in your room’s drawers. If all these facts are true in your case, don’t get nervous. You can get rid of all those old mobile phones and even make a handsome profit from their sale.

To begin, if you don’t have the necessary technical expertise, go to your nearest mobile phone store and request them to transfer the data from your old phone into your new one. Although this method will work very well if you wish to transfer the data from old phone into the new one, you can also make use of memory cards or USB cords, besides many other options to transfer the pictures directly into your laptop or desktop. After you have successfully transferred or downloaded all the data, make sure that you dump everything on the old phone. Follow it up by resetting your old mobile phone, so that no one can retrieve the old data.

Once you have taken the above mentioned steps, your old mobile phone is ready for recycling and earning you some profit. The money you make from mobile phone recycling will depend on the exact model and condition of your old phone. However, you can make anywhere up to £200 from it.

A survey was recently conducted to determine what cell phones are recycled most commonly. Apple iPhones ranked at the top of most recycled cell phones, especially their 3GS and the iPhone 4 versions which were the top two. Talking about the funds these iPhones could fetch you, well, a 3GS can gain somewhere around £104 from cell phone recycling while the 4 can gain around £243. The list mentions Blackberry Curve as the next one among most commonly recycled mobiles with a recycled value of only £52. These amounts are only indicative averages that your phone could get from any of the various recycling centres. However, if your old phone is in a great working condition, you could receive a higher amount from recycling otherwise you may just receive a few pounds if it isn’t. Also on this list of most commonly recycled cell phones was the Apple 3G fetching an average £60.

Samsung Galaxy, HTC Wildfire, HTC Desire, Blackberry Touch, Bold and Curve 8900 were among the other phones on the list. A majority of these phones could fetch you around £50 which is a pretty good deal, though some good recycling houses may even reward you with £100 or above for this gesture. These values are important to know in two cases – you can recycle your own mobile phone and get the cash or you could even buy a recycled phone for your own use. Knowing the competition and what it has to offer is always good to know!

Some enterprising Japanese students have come up with a noble idea of using the money earned from mobile phone recycling towards the rebuilding process of their school, post the damage caused by the earthquake last year. These students went about collecting old mobile phones from different landfills and recycling centres and later turned them in for recycling and gathered some funds from the whole process.

A simple initiative like this makes us all ponder about what all we can do for our country or different charities, if we really wish to. If you too have old mobile phones lying around and gathering dust in your home, you can also use them as a means for helping other people in need. All you will be required to do is go on to Internet and locate a mobile phone recycling portal which will give you a good price for your old mobile phone(s). The mobile phone recycling company will do the rest by handing you over the funds in accordance with the quality and quantity of the phone(s) you turn in.

Once you have the funds in hand, you can pass them on to a charity, an individual or a country of your choice. Perhaps, you can initiate a similar initiative as done by the students in Japan and go about collecting old mobile phones and then turn them in for mobile phone recycling. We all are helped by others at some point of time in our lives and it is important that we give back too.

Chennai is just one of the few places where you will notice some individuals looking for mobile phones through the recycle bins. In many cities across India, the recyclable rubbish is sent to China and these individuals have a specific target to not let any valuables get lost in trash bins, especially mobile phones and other electronic items. Plenty of goods are recycled and even re-used each year, some after going through the process of refurbishment.

One point of concern is – why should you send your electronic items, including the mobile phones, to any other country when you can solve the problem of excess waste by handling it well in your very own country? A big fact about cell phones that many people tend to ignore or overlook is that it can fetch you quite a few pounds which can be used towards funding a newer phone too. There is a high likelihood of earning anywhere between ten and 200 pounds for any of the old mobile phones. Amount earned from recycling depends totally upon the condition of the phone and its model. By recycling, you will at least know what its’ worth is.

In the remotest possibility that your mobile is not fetching you enough in the process of recycling, it is still extremely prudent to recycle it considering you are acting in the best interests of our environment and the planet. The more trash we dump into our landfills every year, the more we end up contributing towards global warming and harming the earth.
