How Mobile Phone Recycling Helps People and the Environment

June 30, 2010 by admin

There are literally millions of Mobile phones that are out of service today. They are laying around in people’s houses without any use for anyone. What many people do not know is that they can be recycled in such a way that will not harm the environment. The fact is that millions of new phones are bought every year which means the problem is only getting worse. So the next big question is “What are we going to do with all these cell phones lying around?

One solution that seems to be working is to re-use the phones. Most of these used phones can be serviced and be used again by somebody else. The second hand mobile phone market is a bourgeoning market. The fact is, many people out there cannot afford a new phone. In this situation buying a used mobile phone is the only answer for many people who need a phone. There are websites people can go to and find out what their used mobile phones will cost, such as a recycling comparison site like us! This is an excellent way to keep phones from filling up land fills. Nowadays there are thousands of people searching the internet for a decent used mobile phone.

It is estimated that only around 10-15% of mobile phones are recycled in the world today. The reason why it is important to recycle them as much as possible is because mobile phones contain some very harmful chemicals in them. They also contain small amounts of precious metals such as gold, silver and platinum. There are many companies nowadays that specialise in recycling mobile phones. They have websites that will even have price list of used phones. Finding such a site is easy; all it takes is typing a search for mobile phone recycling services.

There are basically 2 different types of companies that specialise in mobile phone recycling. One type will buy the phone, refurbish it and then resell it. The other type will extract whatever poisonous chemicals from the phone and dispose of it in a safe way. The bottom line is that even if a mobile phone is re-used, at some point of time it will reach the end of its life. At that point it will have to be disposed of. Many people who own phones will not bother to fix their phones when it stops working. This is a big mistake. Most phones can continue working after minor repairs.
